Upham Road Repairs Update: Work to begin June 21st

Changes to bus routes and new Upham Road Website

Councillors are expecting Upham Road to be closed from June 21st as urgently needed repair work begins in earnest.

Coucnillors recommend residents check the Council webpage dedicated to the Upham Road repair works. They have promised to update this regularly:  www.swindon.gov.uk/uphamroad

The latest leaflet sent out to residents is available for download here. Please read for details of the work plan and access details.

Cllr Emma Bushell said: “Whilst we are delighted this much-needed work is finally starting, we are aware that there will be significant inconvenience for local residents in the weeks ahead. Councillors Steve, Abdul and I will keep a close eye on the works as they progress and are asking residents to let us know if they experience any problems if these cannot be resolved with the contractors on-site or the council’s Highways team.”

Contractor Contact:

The Council have appointed Griffiths as the contractors to carry out the work. Their Public Liaison Officer for the Upham Road Improvement works is Jim Aitken. He can be contacted by

Telephone: 0330 041 4637*  (charges apply)

Busses:

Many residents have raised concerns about bus routes during the work. Swindon Bus have confirmed that they will divert Route 17 via Queens Drive, Drove Road and Groundwell Road, unfortunately leaving Walcot West without a bus route.

The Council have now confirmed that there will be a minibus service for residents run by a company called Access.  This will run 4 times a day (9:30, 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30)  (Mon-Sat), from the  existing bus stop on Drove Road, by Queens Park. Access say they will be charging a fare in line with other bus companies in Swindon for a route of this nature. The Council have told us this service will be reviewed and reduced if necessary.
