The Walcot & Park North Councillors have welcomed the completion of the first phase of the Sussex Square development. The first phase of the redevelopment is for all the retail units to be occupied- which is set to happen on Thursday 5th November. The second and third phases of the redevelopment are for the completion of the residential units and the demolition of the old Sussex Square building, which is set to happen in 2016. The Sussex Square redevelopment is a £10m project.

The Coop and Walcot library will be opening on Thursday 5th September to mark the completion of the second phase of the redevelopment. The Walcot Post Office will be situated at the Coop with extending opening of 6am to 10pm on weekdays.

The Walcot & Park North Councillor, Steve Allsopp, said: “It is terrific news that the Sussex Square redevelopment has progressed now to have the retailers in their allocated units. Since we were elected in Walcot in 2012 we had the redevelopment of Sussex Square as one of our main pledges and now we are delighted that our pledge is being delivered.

There have been some issues during the development but overall the developers have done everything needed to put things right and this will be a much better area for Walcot than what stood before.

We look forward to celebrating the full completion of the scheme next year.”
