Updated: Road Closures in Old Town

Emergency work to repair a collapsed sewer in Devizes Road has meant that this road will be closed for 3-4 weeks.  Thames Water started the work on Saturday 29 September.

This has meant that the planned resurfacing work of Victoria Road (from Prospect Place to Cross Street) on Monday has been postponed.

Emergency work to repair a collapsed sewer in Devizes Road has meant that this road will be closed for 3-4 weeks.  Thames Water started the work on Saturday 29 September.

This has meant that the planned resurfacing work of Victoria Road (from Prospect Place to Cross Street) on Monday has been postponed, so that the road closures do not coincide.  Victoria Road will probably close at the end of October or beginning of November, but it depends on how long Thames Water take carrying out the improvements in Devizes Road.

The preparation work on Victoria Road will still take place this week and will include drainage improvements, during off-peak times with traffic restricted to a single lane controlled by ‘stop-go’ boards.

The closure will be between Prospect Place and Cross Street and the diversion route will be via Groundwell Road, Drove Road, Cricklade Street, High Street, Newport Street, Devizes Road and Bath Road and vice versa.

At the southern end, the road will be closed to through traffic at Bath Road, with access only for residents and businesses.
