Update from your Liden, Eldene and Park South Councillors

New Parish Councils
At the time of writing this article it looks certain that Swindon Borough Council will be introducing new parishes across Swindon and joining up Eldene and Liden with the current Nythe Parish. The Conservative Cabinet on the Council have said new parish councils will be providing services like street cleaning, grounds maintenance and fly-tipping collection. The Council have said that together with general Council-Tax increases, this will mean residents in non-parished areas will have their council-tax increased by more than £120, close to a 9% increase.

As your local councillors, we have voted against the parishing of Swindon’s non-parished areas because this is effectively being done in order to generate a backdoor council-tax increase, it will lead to a new tier of local government & extra bureaucracy everybody will have to pay for and because it has not received the support of local residents.

The new parish councils will need parish councillors, could that be you? Do get in touch if you feel you can be part of this going forward or to be kept up to date on the latest happenings.

Parking and GWH
In previous Handy Mag articles we reported that Cllr Derique Montaut had been talking to Liden residents, Board Members of the Great Western Hospital and the neighbourhood police team over GWH staff parking in Liden. Have you been affected by this? Do let us know.

Crime
We have been concerned that there has been a growing number of thefts from cars and gardens. Please do ensure your cars are locked at all times, garages and shed secure and bikes not left unattended.
