Update from your Liden, Eldene and Park South Councillors

Libraries

In our last article we mentioned Swindon Council’s plan to reduce Swindon libraries to just four, with the closure of both Liden and Park South libraries unless volunteers are found. We can now advise that consultation events will be taking place to allow you to have your say on Swindon Borough Council’s new library strategy. Within our area these are Mon, 5th Sept (11am-3pm) at Parks Library and Weds, 7th Sept (10am-2pm) at Liden Library.  The consultation ends on Fri 30th September.

Parking Concerns in Eldene

Several junctions along Eldene Drive are being reviewed with the possible introduction of parking controls due the concern of residents with parking preventing clear views.  Junctions being considered are at Islandsmead, Collingsmead, Elmore, Overbrook and Acorn Close.  If you have any additional information regarding concerns about parking on the junctions, we would be grateful if you could get in touch.

GWH Staff Parking in Liden

We have joined local residents living in Liden in calling for something to be done over hospital workers using their streets as a free car park. It appears that staff at the Great Western Hospital are parking in streets near to the hospital in order to avoid paying the parking fees that are in place at the hospital.  These parking fees are for both hospital visitors and for hospital staff.

Particular concerns from local residents about hospital workers parking in residential streets included restricting emergency vehicles ability to get down the streets and residents being unable to park their vehicles on the street. It would be great if a resolution can be found that can suit residents and valued hospital workers.

Dial a Ride

Last month, Liden, Eldene and Park South Councillor, Derique Montaut, met with disabled people who use the Dial a Ride service to discuss the impact of the Council’s proposed cuts to their service. We have been told that cuts in council funding to the Dial a Ride service could be as much as two-thirds over the course of a full year. A petition has started to call on the Council to not cut funding to Dial a Ride, please get in touch with us if you wish to sign this.
