Tory-run Swindon Council are looking to create new parishes to operate streetsmart services such as street cleaning, road & footpath maintenance and bin emptying. They intend to create new parish councils in order to increase your counciltax through a new Parish Precept.

The Tory Council want to increase the Council- Tax in order to properly fund streetsmart services that are in dramatic decline. Together with the Conservative’s other plans, this will mean your council tax will increase by up to £120 over three years.

Parish Councils are less efficient than the Borough Council and it will cost you £10 per year more for services to be ran by parish councils.

Labour is concerned that the Conservatives would like to introduce new Parish Councils and new Parish Tax. This will enable them to avoid making dramatic council-tax increases themselves, whilst meaning the Parish Councils will cost taxpayers considerably more.
