Local residents have been asking me for an update following the damage caused by the emergency repair work carried out by Thames Water over New Year at East Wichel. The work was to a burst water mains, which contractors gained access to through the main entrance to the public park off Fernacre Road. This caused severe damage to the park paths and grass areas. As residents are well aware the park was constructed last Autumn and was only recently opened to the public. The damage has left large areas of the park inaccessible.

I have been in contact with Council officers asking them to pursue this matter. Thames Water apologised for the damage.

A site visit took place today with Thames Water to discuss the damage and the areas that need making good. They were very apologetic and have agreed to rectify all the damage – paths /grass areas. Council officers will send them specifications/instructions and then they need to programme in the works – they have said they will treat it as urgent.

I am pleased that Thames Water are treating this as urgent. I am sure local residents will look forward to using the park again soon when it has been restored to its original state.
