The Technical School building in Victoria Hill has been given Grade II listed status. While this does not prevent building work being carried out, it does ensure that the building's character will be retained. The building has historic significance as one of the first technical schools in the country.
Emma Bushell, Labour's Candidate in Eastcott said, " I believe that it is important to protect Swindon's heritage. However, questions do need to be asked about who actually requested listed status and their motives for doing so. This information has not yet been made public. We must ensure that mistakes with other historic buildings in Swindon are not repeated and that restrictions on work that can be done to the building are not used as an excuse to let it fall into disrepair."
