Liden, Eldene & Park South Councillor, Derique Montaut, has raised concerns about the deterioration of council services following news there has been a large increase in complaints submitted to the Council from April to July 31st compared to previous years. Complaints have increased to 1233 from April to July 31st in 2014, compared to only 900 in 2013/14.

These statistics were revealed in a Swindon Borough Council report for the Streetsmart & Highways Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

The report states that biggest increase in complaints has been regarding waste and recycling, the green waste service and regarding grounds maintenance.

Councillor Derique Montaut said:  “I am not surprised by the fact that complaints about council services have increased recently as I’ve been hearing about people’s displeasure about the decline in council services in my own ward. What has surprised me is the level of increase in complaints about the council, with the number of complaints going up by more than a third compared to last year.

The source of the increase has come from waste and recycling services, the new chargeable green waste collection service and grounds maintenance, like grass cutting.  I think the primary reason for the increase in complaints is because of the cuts the council have made to these services which you could say has reduced the quality of life our town’s residents.

What the Council needs to do now to reduce the number of complaints is to stop cutting these services that led so much to their deterioration.”
