There are the following Key Changes to the Admission Arrangements:

  1. The School Admissions Code, published in February 2012 removed the requirement for Local Authorities to co-ordinate cross border with other Local Authorities for in-year applications. The arrangements for handling in year applications have been updated to reflect this change.
  2. The School Admissions Code also gave increased recognition to children of UK service personnel, as they can now be an exception to infant class sizes. The Local Authority is consulting upon an amendment to the arrangements which may allow a school to go above the published admission number where a reasonable alternative school could not be offered.
  3. The secondary co-ordinated arrangements contains information regarding the possibility of a University Technical College (UTC) which is planned to open in September 2014. The admissions arrangements will involve students transferring from their current school at the start of Year 10 or joining the sixth form in Year 12

Swindon Borough Council will be reporting on the results of the consultation to the Children’s Trust Board and Cabinet in March 2013 and will publish the final admission arrangements in May 2013.
