Following the article in the Adver, where local councillors highlighted this issue, Taylor Wimpey have been contacted and they are prepared to give up the land on a temporary basis, so that a play park could be available to residents this summer.

Councillor Watts said that a meeting will now be taking place with Council officers and the East Wichel Councillors to review how this play park can be progressed and potential funding options.

East Wichel Councillor, Nadine Watts, said:  “It’s fantastic news that Taylor Wimpey have agreed to give up land at East Wichel for a play park ready for this summer. Along with my ward councillor colleagues, I highlighted that the lack of a play area was a real concern for many local residents, because I feel that it would be unfair on young children in East Wichel to have to endure another summer of no play facilities. It is a gesture of goodwill by the housing developer to local residents to donate the land.  I am so pleased that they have done this and I think they deserve thanks on this particular case.

Now I will be meeting with Council Officers to look at how we can pay for this temporary play park and hope we can move quickly so that we can have the play park installed for most of the summer.”
