Roadworks during October Half Term

A number of major roadworks projects will be taking place throughout the October Half Term period. These works have been on hold for the last 2 years as it would have caused mass disruption if undertaken with other works at the time (Bruce Street Bridges, SSE Cabling and Network Rail to name a few).

Wootton Bassett Road – ROAD CLOSURE (From the Bowling Green to the Kingshill Roundabout – inclusive of Westcott Place and Kingshill).

Works are permitted from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday to maximise the work that can be completed in a day, in order to minimise the overall duration of the works.  It is anticipated that these works will take 6 full days.

The Kingshill roundabout will be closed and therefore Kingshill  will be closed at Bath Road and Westcott Place will be closed at the roundabout by Park Lane / Farringdon Road.  Access to residents will be permitted where safe to do so, this will be managed by the Contractor on site.

Kingsdown Crossroads – ROAD CLOSURE (The crossroads between Hyde Road, Kingsdown Road and Beechcroft Road)

Works are permitted from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday to maximise the work that can be completed in a day, in order to minimise the overall duration of the works.  It is envisaged that these works will take 3 full days.

In both cases the road will need to be closed for the duration of the works as there is insufficient space to safely undertake the works and maintain any form of through traffic. Works cannot be carried out overnight due to the close proximity of residential properties in the areas.

For the above sites, advanced warning signs will be placed on site next week to allow road users to take note of the planned closures in order to plan their alternative routes during the half term period.

Despite these considerations, the likely congestion and delay for drivers particularly at peak hours and for the first day or two of the road closure, is anticipated to be very significant, and drivers are advised to avoid the area if at all possible for the duration of the works.
