Ridgeway Farm Housing Development Given Go Ahead by Tory Local Government Minister Eric Pickles MP

Labour Councillors and local people were stunned to learn that housing will be built on Ridgeway Farm adding to the misery of gridlock on local roads. Labour has been calling on the Tories to build a link road for some years now, but it doesn’t appear to be any nearer to being built. Growing calls for a Thamesdown Drive to Barnfield Link Road are a priority for Labour councillors. It is scandalous that the North and West of the town does not have this much needed road infrastructure.

Growing calls for a Thamesdown Drive to Barnfield Link Road are a priority for Labour councillors. It is scandalous that the North and West of the town does not have this much needed road infrastructure.

Labour Leader Jim Grant said “as Swindon grows it is outrageous that the need for improved infrastructure and a Link Road is being ignored by the Tory led government and council.” Increasing congestion concerns have been behind Mannington & Western Labour councillors stepping up our long campaign for a road to relieve Mead Way. Labour are pushing for this to happen.

Local residents have been increasingly vocal in recent weeks about Mead Way's daily gridlock troubles. There are fears plans for more housing on the Swindon Border with Wiltshire Council, and the arrival of traffic serving the new Ridgeway Farm and Tadpole Farm developments, will add to Shaw congestion woes in Swinley Drive.

Jim Grant says “Your Local Labour team work all year round with local people to campaign for what matters to them. The Tories are in confusion as one senior Cllr claims the relief road will cost £110 million and another one £60 million! Only Labour is listening to local people and we will be campaigning for a BUS GATE to be installed in Swinley Drive to prevent rat running in Shaw to avoid Mead Way.” Labour will push for a relief road to be included as a firm requirement in the Local Plan currently out for consultation to 21st February 2013.
