Protect Lydiard Park – Matthew Courtliff

Lydiard Park and House is the jewel in Swindon’s crown, a marvellous attraction that is rich in heritage and enjoyed by residents of, and visitors to our town with equal pleasure, which is able to be accessed so readily and easily due to being owned and controlled by the people of Swindon. We should be proud to possess such a unique piece of history.

Worryingly, the current Conservative run council is seeking to relinquish control of Lydiard Park to a private organisation, just as it did with our leisure facilities. After the bitter loss of our climbing wall at the Link Centre, we cannot trust the Conservatives to protect the interests of our community by giving away an asset in which our community has invested millions of pounds.

I know how important Lydiard Park is to the people of Swindon and I also realise the current economic climate means cuts leave councils having to find more and more savings. Lydiard Park is commercially viable which can aid it to become a selfsustainable asset, and as a proactive and responsible councillor, I will seek to realise commercial opportunities in the interests of Lydiard, to ensure that our most prized asset stays in public hands for generations to come. You can make your views known directly to the council at lydiardfuture@Swindon.gov.uk and follow developments on our website.
