Parks and Walcot Libraries at risk under Council’s Library Proposals

Local councillors Steve Allsopp, Abdul Amin and Emma Bushell are concerned and disappointed at the council’s plans to cut branch libraries across Swindon.

Under current proposals both Walcot and Parks libraries are under threat of closure.

The next stage of the council's library consultation begins August 1st

Parks Library : Mon Sep 5th 11.00am-3.00pm
Walcot Library: Wed Sep 21st 9.30am – 1.00pm

Councillor Emma Bushell said: “The council’s plans are sad news for local communities and library users across Swindon. Although the consultation process continues and we would encourage residents to have their say we are worried that the Council’s mind is made up to withdraw funding to branch libraries”

Emma, Steve and Abdul will continue to fight these proposals which could put Walcot and Parks libraries under threat of closure in the future. If the council
presses ahead with plans the only way to keep our libraries will be for local groups and volunteers to run them. Councillors are therefore interested in hearing from local groups or individuals interested in maintaining a library service in the ward.
