Only Labour will recruit the extra doctors and nurses Swindon’s NHS badly needs

Labour will recruit 20,000 more nurses, 8,000 more GPs and 5,000 more home-care workers to tackle the Tory A&E crisis. These extra staff will be fully funded by a Mansion Tax on properties worth over £2 million, a clamp-down on tax avoidance and a levy on tobacco firms.

New NHS figures show that over 23,000 patients have waited over four hours in A&E at Swindon’s Great Western Hospital since the Tories came into Government in 2010.

The Tories have caused the worst A&E crisis on record, and these new statistics show that patients in Swindon are suffering as a result. In the last year, over a million people waited longer than four hours in A&E.

Only Labour will recruit the extra doctors and nurses Swindon’s NHS badly needs.

Nurse numbers have failed to keep pace with the demand, and now over half of nurses warn that their ward or unit remains dangerously understaffed. The Tories have increased pressure on A&E by making cuts to elderly care, which means older people find it harder to get the care they need at home, and often end up in A&E.

Now the Tories have set out plans for extreme spending cuts which threaten the survival of the NHS as we know it.

Labour has a better plan.

Anne Snelgrove, Labour’s candidate for South Swindon said: “The fact that 23,000 patients have waited over four hours in A&E at the Great Western hospital shows that you can’t trust the Tories with our NHS. Only Labour will recruit the extra doctors and nurses Swindon’s NHS badly needs.”
