Old Town Meeting Supports Local Libraries

Labour’s amended budget would fund all our libraries for the next two years.

Nadine and Jane support the campaign by “Save Swindon’s Libraries” to keep a professionally staffed library service for Swindon.

At the Community Centre @ Christ Church on 10th April, best-selling authors and local residents protested against the proposed 65% cut to library funding.

Author and libraries campaigner Alan Gibbons spoke of the importance of public libraries in maintaining a sense of community and improving children’s life chances. He asked why the UK, one of the world's richest countries, is closing libraries when South Korea has opened 180 new public libraries in the past few years.

The fight to save Swindon’s libraries is just beginning.
