Number 22 Old Town bus service under threat from Conservative cuts

In the 2013 budget proposal, the Conservative administration have put forward cutting the subsidy for the No 22 bus. The Labour group have tabled alternative savings that reverse this and help safeguard the service.

Cllr Nadine Watts states that “The managing director of Stagecoach (South West), has criticised the Conservative group approach to bus services, highlighting challenges Swindon’s bus operators’ will face without Council or government support. It is suggested that, as bus services do not always provide visible outcomes, they are being unfairly punished. I support that view as many constituents, who currently use Council subsidised bus routes, rely on bus services to get to work, see family or friends or be able to do their weekly shop.”
