News from Neil, Fay and Derique

The past two months have been something of a whirlwind of activity following their election as councillors for Liden, Eldene and Park South – but together Neil, Fay and Derique have worked hard to obtain an understanding of local issues culminating in a Localities Meeting with local residents at Churchfields School on 4th July.

Eldene Centre
We have studied the plans for the new Morrisons shopping centre at the Eldene Centre, and agree that it’s good news for the area! We are keeping an eye on the development plans as they progress, and have raised questions about vehicular access and the allocation of independent retail units under the development. We hope that residents will also continue to pass onto us any concerns or comments.

Anti-Social Behaviour
Residents have raised the matter of anti-social behaviour along the path of the cycle track backing onto Lawrence Close and Farman Close, and we are working with local police officers to try to deal with the situation.

Flooding and Drainage
Concerns have been raised by Liden residents concerning possible flooding and drainage concerns behind Okebourne Park.

New Playpark for Park South
Consultation has started on how to spend the money for a new play area next to Oaktree school, on Horsham Road. Hopefully we will see it up and running by May 2013, if you like to be kept up to date do let us know.

Park South Youth Club
Our youth club goes from strength to strength, with young people engaging in positive activities. We are always keen to welcome local residents to our management committee or if you would like to volunteer to help with the club do get in touch.

Grass-Cutting and the Collection of Green Waste
Concerns over grass-cutting make up approximately half of our workload at the moment! To be fair to Swindon Commercial Services, this has been an exceptionally wet and mild summer which has contributed markedly to their workload, making this a Swindon-wide issue. However, overgrown roundabouts and grass areas, together with uncollected bags of green waste, do not present a good image for the area and we are making urgent representations to Swindon Commercial Services to clear up the backlog of work and to ensure more regular grass-cutting and collection for the future.
