Neil Heavens: Eldene to keep its Post Office

We are pleased to confirm to residents that they will still be able to access a local Post Office after the Post Office confirmed it is looking for a new retailer to host the franchise. The Post Office is currently advertising for a new retailer to open a franchise which will replace the present one in Martin’s newsagents.

Since plans to demolish the village centre were first announced  councillors Neil Heavens, Fay Howard & Derique Montaut have worked hard to reassure residents that steps would be taken to ensure a post office is still available in the area.

Neil Heavens said: “The last I was informed was that an agreement had been reached between the Post Office and a third party and they would be moving into the unit in Morrisons.  It has taken a long time to finally come to an agreement, mainly because there was some bureaucracy with the processes that had to be followed, but they did have to be followed and now we can say that there will definitely be a post office in the unit in the Morrisons store.”

Neil said: “It’s a great relief. I know that there was a great deal of concern from residents about what would happen to the post office, especially since, for a long time, businesses were still making their decisions.

“It has been an ongoing issue for quite some time now, particularly because many of the residents rely on the post office for services like drawing their pension. I think most residents will be very pleased with this outcome and welcome the news.”
