Nadine Watts: Temporary Closure of Evelyn Street

Swindon Borough Council's Highways Department need to carry out essential maintenance on Evelyn Street Bridge.  The main elements of the scheme entail excavating from above the structure for application of waterproofing materials, reconstruction of the footway surface and some landscaping to improve the path; along with brick arch pointing and some localised repair from below.

The works are intended to commence week beginning Monday 29 July and should be complete by 1 September. During the works it will be necessary to close the section of road below the bridge and also the path above the bridge. The scheme is planned to coincide with school summer holidays and in this way Swindon Borough Council's Highways Department hope to take advantage of summer weather conditions and lower traffic volumes so helping to minimise disruption to residents.

There will be advanced notification signs in place prior to starting works in order to advise the travelling public of the impending road closure. There will also be diversion route signing along Marlborough Lane towards Pipers Way and Marlborough Road whilst the closure is in operation. It is anticipated that site activities will take place during normal working hours though the closure will remain in place for the duration.
