Nadine Watts: Swindon’s Conservative Council votes to cut number 22 bus service

At Full Council on 21 February Nadine Watts, Ward Councillor for Old Town, supported Old Town residents views of the importance of the number 22 bus service.

Nadine said  "Bus number 22 is relied upon by many local residents in Old Town.  Any proposed cuts to the bus subsidy would have an adverse effect on its users and in particular the elderly.  It is also vital for the businesses in Old Town to be well served by public transport".

"I urged the Council to support the Labour amendment to the administration's budget.  Unfortunately, the Labour amendment was lost and the Conservative administration's budget was passed with the help of Swindon's Lib Dem Councillors. "

"I am disappointed for the people of Old Town.  There were choices to be made and the Labour amendment showed that we prioritised the bus routes, as well as the elderly and the vulnerable."
