Nadine Watts: Swindon Mela is Go

Cllr Nadine Watts (Old Town), said, "It is brilliant news that the Mela is going to take place again this year, after earlier problems.  The new date has just be announced by the Swindon Mela Project Team of Saturday 14 September.  The change of date is entirely due to the availability of suppliers following the cancellation of bookings earlier in the month and the availability of the venue.  Visitor donations will be key ot the financing of the Mela.  The recommended donation of £2 per adult worked well last year.

The Swindon Mela is a much loved event. It is a very popular cultural festival, not only amongst local residents in Swindon, but also many people travel from outside the area to attend, as news has spread about it being such a fantastic event. It is also good for local businesses. Like past years, I look forward to attending this year's event. I am always impressed by the quality of the performers, the variety of stall holders, the different zones, and generally the whole atmosphere, ethos and organisation.
