Nadine Watts: East Wichel Permanent Play Area

I am pleased that the tender has now been awarded for the construction of the new play area in East Wichel and that the planning application has been submitted. There have been some delays with this project. Some of this was due to Swindon Commercial Services being brought back into Swindon Borough Council. However, I am glad that progress is being made.

The South Locality Team met with the developers before Christmas and the developers are considering extending the life of the temporary play area

Now incorporated into the permanent play area are some of the comments from residents during the consultation last year which include:

  • Three swings now instead of two
  • Realigned some edge mounds and the toddlers sand pit in the play area
  • Added football posts in the grass kick about and a picnic table and benches in the orchard area with extra benches in the play area
Work on the permanent play area is scheduled to start on site at the beginning of April and should be completed by the end of June.  Residents of East Wichel have had a long wait for this play area and the plans do look fantastic.  I am pleased that local children will have a brilliant new play area.
