Labour will reduce stamp duty to zero for first-time buyers of homes worth up to £300,000

Labour’s plan to reduce stamp duty to zero for first-time buyers will make a real difference to families across Swindon and help people to buy their first home.

Britain is facing the biggest housing crisis for a generation. If current trends continue, nearly five million young people will be living with their parents by 2020.

Labour will reduce stamp duty to zero for first-time buyers of homes worth up to £300,000.

The Tory plan has failed families across Swindon who rent or want to buy their first home. Housebuilding is at its lowest peacetime level since the 1920s, and home ownership is at its lowest level for thirty years.

Labour has a better plan. Labour will reduce stamp duty to zero for first-time buyers of homes worth up to £300,000. This, combined with the biggest housebuilding programme for a generation, will help Swindon families get on the housing ladder. Labour’s plan will start construction on one million new homes and give first-time buyers who have lived in our town for more than three years first call on up to half of homes built here.

Anne Snelgrove, Labour’s candidate for South Swindon said: “Labour’s plan to reduce stamp duty to zero for first-time buyers will make a real difference to families across Swindon and help people to buy their first home.”

People who rent need a fairer deal too. That is why Labour will bring in secure three-year tenancies for those who want them, and cap rents by inflation. Labour will also ban rip-off letting agent fees.
