June Update from Walcot & Park North Councillors

Walcot West Parking Update

Councillors are currently chasing Council Officers for costed plans for measures to relieve parking problems in the Walcot West area. Proposals include making the area a 20 MPH zone. These proposals were discussed between Abdul, Emma, Steve and Council Officers in April and endorsed by many in attendance at a public meeting later in the month.

Party in the Parks Saturday June 30th

Plans have been announced for this years Party in the Parks.
The event will take place on Saturday June 30th 11am to 4pm at St John’s Church, Whitbourne Avenue.
There will be performances, stalls and activities through the day.
The event is organised by Restore and St John’s Church

Upham Road Grass Verge Repaired

The council have now undertaken work to repair the grass verge on the Upham Road / Southview Avenue junction. The damage was caused during April's road repair work in the area.

Huntley Close Play Area

The re-vamped play equipment at the Huntley Close Play Area is now open to the public and looking great

Rough Sleepers in the Lawns

Local dog-walkers have raised concerns about people camping / rough-sleeping in the Lawn Woods. Councillors have flagged this to the Council. Council officers are aware of the issue and taking a multi-agency approach to move these individuals on.

Free Advice Sessions on Managing Household Bills –Tuesdays at Cavendish Square

Debt Solutions on Tap is a new project from Citizens Advice Swindon funded by the Thames Water Trust fund which is aimed at helping people who are finding it hard to manage their everyday household bills.
Residents can speak to a Citizens Advice Money Advisor at a weekly drop-in centre:
Tuesday 10 am – 1pm East Swindon Citizens Advice, Cavendish Square, Swindon, SN3 2LZ
Anyone attending the session for advice should bring details of money owed and income.

Young Wardens 2016 – Free Holiday Activities for children of Council Tenants

Details of this summer's Young Warden scheme for children of Council tenants has been announced
The Young Warden project is run by Swindon Borough council’s Neighbourhood Warden Team. It is aimed at providing FREE activities for children aged 7-11 years during the summer holidays and October half term week. All activities are related to personal safety or caring for the environment ensuring that the sessions are an enjoyable combination of education, awareness raising and fun!

New Cycle Tracks Planned for The Lawns
The Council have announced plans for new cycle lanes in the Lawn Woods area used by many local residents for dog-walking and general enjoyment. One of the proposed new  tracks leads off Falmouth Grove in Walcot West. Full details and plans of the proposed routes can be found here:
