Honda Needs Support from Government

The recent news that Honda in Swindon is making 800 workers redundant in April has sent shock waves across Shaw, where many Honda workers live.

Anne Snelgrove, MP for South Swindon when Honda last cut back on production (pictured, above right), said that Government action is again needed to help our town weather the storm. ‘Losing jobs at Honda means that shops and services across Swindon will be affected because local people have less money to spend,’ Anne said.

‘When Labour was in Government we delivered real help for Honda through the car scrappage scheme and a big investment in training. I am concerned that the Tory/Lib
Dem Government has just accepted the situation when urgent action is needed now to boost industry in Swindon and improve the job prospects of those made redundant.’
