Have your say on Parishes

Following the Scrutiny Committee meeting on Monday 20th June, the council will be holding a number of public meetings and workshops to enable residents to hear an update on the review and raise awareness of the next stages.

Should new or existing parish councils take on additional grounds and street cleaning services?

If the Council agrees to create one or more new parishes at its meeting in November, a shadow parish council would be formed, which would take budget and parish precept decisions until a new parish council is elected next April.

The Council currently spends around £4 million on grounds and cleansing services and it is estimated that residents’ annual council tax bills would increase by about £75 on average if the costs of these local services are transferred to parish councils. However, this will vary by parish to reflect the local prioritisation of services.

The following public meetings have been scheduled.
Space is limited at each venue, so anyone wishing to attend should contact cgr@swindon.gov.uk or telephone Leanne Curtis on 01793 464816.
