Over the next few weeks stakeholders, community groups and members of the public will have an important opportunity to help shape how Swindon Borough Council manages local flood risk.  Swindon Borough Council have recently prepared a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS) and the draft version is now available for public consultation.

About the LFRMS

The focus of the LFRMS is on local flooding – including flooding from surface water, groundwater, streams and ditches. This type of flooding is becoming increasingly common, but until recently no organisation has had direct responsibility for it. Following the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, Swindon Borough Council now has new powers and responsibilities for coordinating local flood risk management. The LFMRS sets out how the Council intend to work with partners to tackle local flooding in the future.  Importantly, it will also explain how local communities can help to protect themselves against flooding.

How to make your comments

The Council would like as many people as possible to comment on the draft version of the LFRMS during the consultation process.

The full LFRMS document, containing further details, is also available on our websitewww.swindon.gov.uk/floodrisk
