Five more years of the Tories could see families paying £500 more for their childcare in Swindon

Under David Cameron the cost of a part-time nursery place has soared by 36 per cent. Anne is currently running a campaign to save Swindon’s Children’s Centres, which are slated for closure by the end of March.

Labour has a better plan for working families – they would extend the amount of free childcare for working parents of three and four year olds to 25 hours a week, in addition to tax-free childcare, giving parents the peace of mind they need.

Anne Snelgrove, Labour’s candidate for South Swindon, said:  “

“This trend shows that the Tories are failing working families.  They have allowed childcare costs to soar on their watch – the average family in Swindon already pays approximately £100 a week for childcare and the suggestion is that under a Tory government this will continue to rise.

Labour has a plan to help working families, but we need the Council to agree to put aside political differences and work with me.  If we lose our children’s centres then there will be fewer places for Labour to use to fulfil its free childcare pledges.  Keeping the centres mothballed for an extra 6 weeks until the General Election won’t cost the Council a penny, but could save working families in Swindon hundreds of pounds.

I urge Robert Buckland to put aside party politics, reply to my letter and work with me to help working families in Swindon.”
