The Localities team is committed to support Ward Members and to put people first.  They want to understand what matters most to residents and communities and to work alongside people to make good things happen for Swindon.  

The next meeting of the South Locality team is Wednesday 16 October at 7pm at Croft Primary School, Hesketh Crescent, Old Town, SN3 1RY.

What is the purpose of the localities team?

The Localities team is committed to support Ward Members and to put people first.  They want to understand what matters most to residents and communities and to work alongside people to make good things happen for Swindon.

They are working to encourage:

  • stronger and more resilient communities
  • increased trust in the Council as a whole
  • greater local capacity and participation in public and democratic life
  • using local insight to develop a more focused, relevant and effective Council
  • working together to meet shared challenges

What is structure of the localities team?

There are 7 localities within the Borough, each one has elected a local Ward Member to act as Locality Chair, and each has a Locality Lead officer to work with Members and communities.

The South Locality covers Old Town, Wroughton and Wichelstowe, Chiseldon and Lawn, and Ridgeway Wards.
 
When are the South Locality meetings?
There are 4 meetings a year in different locations within the South Locality.
The next meeting of the South Locality team is Wednesday 16 October at 7pm at Croft Primary School, Hesketh Crescent, Old Town, SN3 1RY. 
Another meeting has been booked for Wednesday 22 January at Liddington Village Hall.
 
What is a typical South Locality meeting?
Information stands are set up between 6.30pm and 7pm.  These cover such things as: recycling, libraries, sports centres, crime prevention, neighbourhood watch, etc.  Local councillors attend.  There is a public question time.  Agenda items include local issues, a neighbourhood policing update, approval of any locality grants and approval of allocation of Streetsmart hours.
