East Wichel Play Area Formal Opening

Well done to Nadine, to the Council staff involved, and to those members of the local community who worked to ensure this play area was provided, and who then organised the opening event.

It was really good to be present at the opening of the new children’s play area in East Wichel on Friday 31st October.  On a mild and sunny autumn afternoon, I attended the event with Nadine Watts (local ward councillor), Anne Snelgrove, and scores of local children and parents.

As well as traditional swings, the area has some impressive play equipment, alongside natural materials such as large rocks and tree trunks to inspire and encourage children’s play.  There is also plenty of space for football and other outdoor ball games.

During the afternoon, various children’s activities were organised, involving pumpkins, apples and doughnuts.  After dark we returned to enjoy lighted pumpkins, baked potatoes and hot drinks.

Well done to Nadine, to the Council staff involved, and to those members of the local community who worked to ensure this play area was provided, and who then organised the opening event.

(As a keen cyclist, one addition I would like to see would be some bike rails to encourage families to cycle there.  I had to chain my bike to the wire fence.)
