East Wichel Permanent Play Area Update

"I am really pleased to hear that progress is being made with the permanent play area in East Wichel.  Residents have had a long wait for this and I am sure that the children will be looking to make full use of it over the summer holidays.

The landscape contractor is on programme for completion towards the end of July.  There isn't a precise completion date as this is always weather dependant particularly on a project of this size.

The majority of the earthworks are completing now including the MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) base, the football pitch and the main play area and mounding.  The wet scrape and 2 dry scrapes have now been dug out and the land drainage works should be completed next week.  The existing ditch on the school boundary has now been sculpted in areas to produce bank gradients low enough to encourage natural regeneration of wetland marginal plants. All the play equipment has been ordered and it is expected that the contractor will start installing pieces towards the end of June.  All the logs and the rocks have now been delivered and just need to be placed.  The rocks came from a quarry near Bristol.  Fencing and gates are all anticipated to be installed towards the end of June with the MUGA structure and walling installed early July.

Cllr Nadine Watts (Old Town & East Wichel) said, "I am really pleased to hear that progress is being made with the permanent play area in East Wichel.  Residents have had a long wait for this and I am sure that the children will be looking to make full use of it over the summer holidays.  A further update will be given at the South Locality meeting on 9 July at East Wichel Community Centre at 7pm."
