East Wichel Councillor, Nadine Watts, and Labour’s candidate for East Wichel, Bob Cretchley, have welcomed recent progress in bringing a convenience store to East Wichel, the first of its kind for that community.

The convenience store will be located at 36 Trevello Road and is in the process of applying for a Licensing Application to sell alcohol. The application is currently undergoing a consultation which is due to end on the 8th April.

East Wichel Councillor, Nadine Watts, said: “It is great news that we’re getting very close to East Wichel having its own convenience store. When East Wichel would get its own convenience store is a question that has been asked of the Council and the lead East Wichel developer, Taylor Wimpey, since residents first started moving in to the development back in 2009.

The proposed site of the store is a central location which will make it easy for all East Wichel residents to get to, which is good news.  Hopefully the license application will cause no great issues for residents during the consultation of the license application and we get the new traders in to the convenience store very soon."

Labour’s East Wichel Candidate, Bob Cretchley, said:  “The fact that a convenience store for East Wichel is a step closer is to be very welcomed. I suspect residents will think the convenience store is long overdue as this had been promised since residents first started to moving in to East Wichel in 2009.

Until the Waitrose store was built, East Wichel residents either had to go up the hill to Old Town or go over the M4 to Wroughton to get to a shop. So the fact they’re so close to a shop of their own is brilliant.”
