Councillor Fay Howard: Play park well overdue in Park South

Councillor Fay Howard concerned at the lack of progress on the planned play park at Cavendish Square asked for an update and date when we would see it complete.

We are pleased to report the Lead Member replied that the project is now a priority and acknowledged the delay.

It is hoped the play area will be complete by the school summer holidays.

Councillor Fay Howard concerned at the lack of progress on the planned play park at Cavendish Square asked for an update and date when we would see it complete.

Since 2010 fellow Councillors & community groups have been working with Council officers to spend S106 money and get a play area built as part of the redevelopment of Cavendish square. We have seen the project start & the project stop many times now as council officers leave or get called to work on other projects and therefore we still have no play area.

Last June a consultation was done in the local area as reported in the Swindon Advertiser but since then nothing has progressed. Similarly money in for the public art has not been spent, despite going out to public consultation.

At the Council meeting on February 21st, Councillor Fay Howard is asking the lead Member –
  • How the building of the play area is progressing?

  • For a date when residents can expect to have a play area for the youngsters in Park South & those visiting Cavendish Square to play on?

  • To provide a date when residents can expect to find the public art completed?

We are pleased to report the Lead Member replied that the project is now a priority and acknowledged the delay.

It is hoped the play area will be complete by the school summer holidays.
