Labour is making residents in the West Swindon area aware of the implications of the Conservative administration’s Leisure and Culture Change Programme document, published in April 2013, which identifies the Cabinet’s decision to “explore and identify further commercial and/or charitable opportunities at the Platform, Lydiard House and Park, Coate Water Country Park, Stanton Park and STEAM”.

This document is publicly available on the Council’s website despite the assertions Conservative Councillors that they “have found absolutely no reference to the sale of Lydiard Park or its house whatsoever” after performing a “systematic search of the councils online repository and other information outlets”.

The Council’s “Swindon News” website also carries news from March  2013 of the plans to discuss the programme at a cabinet meeting and Cllr Garry Perkins (Conservative Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Culture) is quoted on Swindon Link as saying “We need to explore what options are out there to ensure our services are sustainable and contribute to our social and economic outcomes.” in relation to the aims of the programme.
