Coate Water – Fighting for It’s Future

With the building work now begun on the near houses at Coate Water a number of issues are coming to a head.

With the building work now begun on the near houses at Coate Water a number of issues are coming to a head.  Around the town developers are looking to build near our major country parks and the continued lack of a robust and approved local plan, and the Coalition presumption in favour of development, is making things easier for them.  Labour does not support development outside of approved local plans and where the infrastructure is not available to cope.

Coate Water is also grouped with Stanton Park and Lydiard Park in a group of amenities whose future is at stake under the plans of the Conservative Administration on Swindon Borough Council to seek more "commercial" opportunities.  A motion was passed by Conservative, and Lib Dems, to investigate the offloading and Lydiard House and Park away from the care and control of the council.  Labour appreciate there may be better ways of running our country parks on a day to day basis but are the only party on the council to have guaranteed their ownership will remain with Swindon people, so that our green spaces are protected for future generations.

Labour are also seeking that any monies coming to the council from work near Coate is invested in the country park to improve facilities and supported a council motion recently to this effect.

Sign the petition to protect Lydiard House and Park.

Remember Coate Water is in the same position as Lydiard Park and once these May elections are out the way proposals are due on their futures.
