Cllr Junab Ali: Residents Parking and other Parking Changes

The £5 reduction in Resident Parking charges was achieved by cross party working and the good work of council officers. It is nonsense for the Lib Dems to claim all the responsibility especially with their attendance record. A second saving of a further £5 is only possible if 60% of parking permits are purchased online.

The Broadgreen area has seen an increase in resident parking spaces however we have received requests to improve limited waiting – this will be done as part of the experimental order changes. A similar request has been made for the Manchester Road scheme. We have listened to the local businesses/shops and will be putting in two additional large loading bays on Manchester Road and increasing limited waiting for shoppers.

The Dean Street/Birch Street area is to be consulted again on a number of increased parking options. The Railway Village area consultation will happen in the near future, again seeking to increase Residents Parking spaces and changes to limited waiting.

We aim to have the experimental Event/Football parking restrictions for the Shrivenham Road area in place by the new Football Season. A residents meeting to discuss the proposal will take place at the Football Club once all the costs are in.

We are trying to help disabled parking around the town centre. Instead of the Conservative administration wasting money on laying the Market Street Car Park to grass it could be converted to disabled parking. We are following up on this.
