Campaigners from North and South Swindon were joined in the Town Centre by Owen Smith MP on Thursday to canvas shoppers on their views on the cancellation of Swindon’s Christmas Market; and to collect signatures supporting it’s reinstatement.

According to the local press traders in the town centre are concerned about the economic impact of the cancellation of Swindon’s Christmas Market, claiming that the market increased footfall and trade in the town centre.

Councillor Mark Dempsey, North Swindon Parlimentary Candidate and Councillor for Walcot and Park North said:  “We need to make the town centre a real day out.  The Christmas Market should be part of a calendar of festivals, live events and specialist markets to bring fun and entertainment to our town during the Christmas period.”
