Anne Snelgrove: Labour to help out at Swindon’s busy Foodbank

Swindon Foodbank has experienced a sharp rise in people needing help. About 150 people a week attend their centres while this time last year there were about 100 users.

Organisers predict the numbers are going to increase by another 40 per cent in the New Year.

Anne Snelgrove, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for South Swindon, will head a team of Labour volunteers to help out at the Swindon Foodbank on November 19th.

Harvest events have helped boost the much-needed supplies so the group will be sorting and stacking at the Foodbank’s warehouse in Westlea.

Anne said: “In the last three years the Foodbank has gone from being used by those on the margins of society to feeding ordinary families and pensioners in Swindon. Wages in Swindon have dropped by £50 in real terms and with the rise in gas and electricity bills, sadly many hard working families are finding they have little or no money left for food at the end of the week.

"We in the local Labour Party are keen to help at the Foodbank now – but we will also invest in Swindon jobs in future so that fewer people need to use it."
