Anne Snelgrove: Cost of childcare soars in Swindon under the Conservatives

I will fight to bring back a full Children’s Centre Service across Swindon.

Affordable childcare is vital for working parents. That’s why Labour will provide 25 hours free childcare each week for working families with three and four-year-old children.

Working parents in Swindon face an uphill battle to meet the rising cost of childcare. Under the Tories, seven Sure Start children’s centres have closed in Swindon since 2010. There are now 370 fewer registered childcare places here, and the cost of a part-time nursery place in Swindon has soared by 40%.

Labour has a better plan for working families in Swindon. Labour will provide 25 hours free childcare each week for working parents of three and four-year-olds, funded by increasing the tax on banks.

Labour will also ensure that all primary schools in our area guarantee access to wraparound childcare from 8am-6pm, to ease the pressure on working parents.

Anne Snelgrove, Labour’s candidate for South Swindon said: “The Tories closed most of our Children’s Centres in March and they will be back for the other five if they win the election. I will fight to bring back a full Children’s Centre Service across Swindon.
