Ridgeway Farm Development Now Underway

People in Shaw want work on this road to start and are fed up with excuses from the Conservative run Swindon Borough Council as they see traffic on Mead Way grinding to a halt.

I understand that everyone needs a home to live in but I do not support development whilst medical facilities, schools, roads, water, sewage and flood prevention struggle to keep pace with spiralling demand.

For 10 years local Conservative Councillors have done little to secure the desperately needed Thamesdown Drive extension to Barnfield/B&Q Roundabout that would take traffic away from Mead Way.

With the Ridgeway Farm development underway Shaw residents learn that Swindon Borough Council is still no nearer to having a meaningful plan in place to help ease congestion through West Swindon.

A local Conservative Councillor has said he is uneasy spending large amounts of council money on a project with no guarantee of approval for funding by Central Government.

Steph thinks it’s totally unacceptable that the residents of Shaw have to live with the daily consequences of such statements by out-of-touch local Conservative Councillors who can see for themselves that Mead Way is choked already with vehicles.  Furthermore Steph is fully supporting Labour’s position on the need for work to begin on this much needed road as soon as possible.

Labour Group Leader Jim Grant summed up the Conservative’s attitude to this road when he said “I think the Conservative Cabinet Member’s decision to not do the detailed design is symbolic of this Conservative administration’s attitude towards this road, which is to keep kicking it in to the long grass. The previous Labour administration as far back as 2002 were preparing to do the detailed design work for this road because we knew it was essential to manage traffic. We are now more than a decade on and this administration is still providing excuses in not providing this road.”
