Working in the community in Swindon

An Update from Sarah Church

Since last year’s General Election when I stood as your Labour and Co-operative Parliamentary Candidate in South Swindon, I have not stopped campaigning or working hard in the Swindon community.

I have taken on a governance role at one of our Further Education colleges and have continued as a primary school governor with responsibility for pupil premium funding expenditure. I am passionate about delivering the best possible education for all children and therefore remain resolutely opposed to the Government’s plan to segregate our children in the outdated grammar school system.

I am also a trustee at our local Law Centre where I am proud to be part of a team ensuring the provision of legal advice and representation to those facing eviction from their homes and who cannot afford to pay legal fees. With Legal Aid dwindling and evictions for Universal Credit related arrears rising, the services of the Law Centre are a vital gateway to justice for many people.

We have been getting our hands dirty picking up litter where residents have told us it causes a real issue. We’ve been pleased to chat to residents who said thanks for taking the time to make Swindon a cleaner place to be. Your Labour team litter pick across Swindon most weeks- get in touch if you want to join us!

I am also proud to Chair the Old Town Festival Committee which is an inclusive community-oriented event bringing together people to enjoy a week of local culture together.
