The election for the new Central Swindon South Parish Council will be held on Thursday 4th May. We are writing to seek your support for the four seats in Old Town & East Wichel Ward. You have four votes in this election. Please use your four votes for these local candidates.
I have had the privilege of being a Borough Councillor in Old Town & East Wichel since 2012 and have a proven track record of working hard for local residents and representing their views. I am actively involved in the community and in raising awareness of local issues. It is important that we make sure that all services transferred to the Central Swindon South Parish Council are delivered to the highest standard in the Old Town Ward and always provide the best value for money.
I was elected to the Borough Council in May 2016 after getting involved in the campaign to prevent the disposal of Croft Field and Sports Centre on a
99-year-plus lease. Nadine Watts is a great ward councillor and with her as my mentor I have been able to learn quickly what being a councillor is all about. As a parish councillor I would be looking for opportunities to make Old Town & East Wichel an even better place to live, and I hope you will share with me your ideas about how to improve our local environment.
I am a husband and father of two, self-employed, and have lived in Swindon for over sixteen years. The views of Old Town and East Wichel residents must be of prime importance when decisions are made and it would be my job as a parish councillor to ascertain and represent your views. As a parish councillor I would promote the interests of Old Town residents and do my best to ensure that services provided are exemplary.
I am an experienced Human Resources Manager and have managed budgets and resources in a number of large companies. I've lived in Old Town for over 5 years. As a committee member of Pipers Area Residents’ Association for the last 3 years I have tackled the administration on issues such as the selling off of leisure facilities and the impact of traffic to Croft School. Although I have always been against the imposition of the new parishes, I feel that now they are here, we should provide a high quality of services to local residents as efficiently as possible and, if elected, I will do my utmost to represent the interests of our residents through the parishes.
As members of the Swindon Labour Party we opposed the setting up of parishes as a cynical financial expedient involving the creation of an unnecessary layer of bureaucracy. We will press for a thorough review of the parishing policy at an early date. Meanwhile our objective will be to get the very best out of the new arrangements for residents of Old Town and East Wichel.
If elected, we will work as a team with the following aims:
On Thursday 4th May your polling station will be open from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm. You don’t need to take your polling card with you in order to vote. Please vote for your local Labour candidates Nadine Watts, Jane Milner-Barry, Saleh Ahmed, and Neil Hopkins.
