Despite the bedroom tax coming into effect, Labour will continue to fight for fairness

On Monday 1st April David Cameron continued to demonstrate the true nature of his government.  In a stark illustration of who comes first under the Conservatives, the bedroom tax came into effect while thousands of millionaires get a tax cut of £100,000 a year.  It has the hallmarks of a bad April Fool’s joke – but the only ones laughing live in mansions and earn a fortune.

Anne Snelgrove: The Budget – More of the same from a downgraded Chancellor

Anne Snelgrove, Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for South Swindon slammed this week's Budget as it will do nothing for Swindon. Anne said "The message from Chancellor George Osborne's Budget was clear: growth down, borrowing up, unemployment up, and millionaires laughing all the way to the bank with a tax cut worth an average £100,000. This was more of the same from a downgraded Chancellor.

Your Britain – Forming Domestic Violence Prevention Policy

The Labour Party in Swindon, comprising of the North and South CLP's, hosted a Your Britain listening and community engagement event focussing on the often hidden issue of domestic violence. The event, introduced by North Swindon PPC Mark Dempsey, featured two key speakers. Firstly, Olwen Kelly, Director of Swindon Women's Aid – a local refuge and outreach service – set the scene on this taboo subject.

Domestic Abuse Awareness Roundtable Event

On Saturday the 16th March the Swindon Labour Party will be hosting a public roundtable discussion event on the subject of Domestic Abuse and Violence which will include guest speakers Olwen Kelly from Swindon Women's Aid and Frank Mullane from Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA).  The feedback gathered will form part of our submission to the Your Britain policy making process being run by the national Labour Party and will help shape future policy designed to tackle domestic violence and abuse.
