Good news. At the recent Swindon Borough Council Planning Committee the application to build on land off Hook Street was rejected.   Lydiard and Freshbrook Labour Councillor Cindy Matthews argued  "It is unfortunate that the Government’s new Planning Framework is making towns such as Swindon very vulnerable to this sort of speculative development, in areas where we wouldn’t choose to build.  We are also not helped by the fact that our Local Plan is still not finalised."

Cindy Matthews, Labour Councillor for Lydiard & Freshbrook, has responded to the public consultationI on the draft local plan for Swindon by asking that the land at Hook Street that is currently subject to a planning application and the adjacent land that goes right up to Lydiard Park itself, be re-designated as green spaces in order to provide greater protection from development.

Cindy is implacably opposed to the planning application by Pegasus to build on the land north of Hook Street. Following the public consultation in the Summer the developers have now submitted an application for outline planning approval for 73 homes to be built at the area adjacent to Grange Park.
