Simon Firth For Shaw

Simon's reasons for standing as a Labour Candidate for Shaw

  • To ensure Lydiard remains in public ownership and control so it is run in the public interest for the long term.
  • Swindon Labour will balance the books, reinstate Sure Start Children’s Centres, build more affordable housing, deliver on regeneration plans for the Town Centre and attract new businesses to Swindon.
  • As your Labour councillor I will prioritise fighting to protect our public services such as education, policing and the NHS from further cuts.

Simon's reasons for standing against the Conservatives

  • They have a record of transferring public assets to third parties, so accountability is lost. West Swindon Conservative councillors voted down a budget amendment to begin to address the backlog of maintenance at Lydiard.
  • The Conservative led council have closed all our Sure Start Children’s Centres, failed to deliver the housing plan for Swindon and allowed Town Centre regeneration to stall.
  • Our public services continue to be squeezed under the Conservatives and we have seen our NHS at breaking point, crime levels rising as police numbers fall, and school class sizes increasing.
