Mike is a Parish Councillor for Nythe, Eldene and Liden Parish.
Mike has lived in Eldene since 2002, moving here with npower, who he joined while studying Engineering at Oxford University. In 2004 he changed jobs to become a secondary maths teacher at St Joseph’s until 2017, then left teaching to become a Finance Analytics Manager at the National Trust, working at Heelis by the Outlet Village.
Mike set up the original Eldene Community Facebook group in 2013, which led on to the creation of Eldene Residents Association a year or so later. This group met regularly until the parish was set up, at which point it was disbanded as it was felt that the parish council would be able to offer a similar service, so he’s pleased now to be on the Parish!
Mike has huge amounts of experience as a voluntary organiser, having been a school governor at Holy Family and Lawn Manor, Chair of local amateur dramatic groups, Trustee of Swindon Food Collective and leader of other groups of volunteers. He brings a high level of technical skill to the council, including website design and financial analysis, as well as obvious experience of education in the area.
As a local resident, Mike has a keen interest in improving the area, whether that is to do with the day-to-day parish activities of litter and playground maintenance or being involved in longer term projects like the Eldene “beach”, and is always keen to work with fellow residents and other members of the parish council.
