Residents who use Freshbrook Village Centre will finally get to see some action on promised regeneration work at the 25 year old village centre in the new year.

Residents who use Freshbrook Village Centre will finally get to see some action on promised regeneration work at the 25 year old village centre in the new year.

When the project, originally intended to breathe new life into village centres across the town, was announced by the Conservative administration at the start of 2012 it had a budget of £900,000; this was recently cut in half to £450,000 and Freshbrook Village Centre will benefit from a £90,000 grant from the council for improvements works to

Planned improvements include cutting back overgrown shrubbery and replanting tired flowerbeds, repairing broken paving and improving signage and parking facilities with plans available to view at the Community Centre on Worsley Road.

Labour Councillor Cindy Matthews, who represents the Lydiard and Freshbook ward, welcome the news that Swindon Borough Council had finally started to act.

Cindy commented “Plans for the improvements to the village centre began even before I was elected, with meetings taking place to discuss what was needed and then it all died out.  Following the cuts to the funding earlier this year I’ve been keeping a close eye on the project and I’m glad that the council have now agreed a way forward and work can begin despite the initial delays”.

Cindy continued “It will be a huge relief to a lot of Freshbrook residents to see the centre smartened up and I will keep residents updated as work progresses”.
